The World’s RICHEST Dog??? [and other rich pets]

In 2019, the world has lost two of the richest pets.

The first one was the all-famous Grumpy Cat 🙁

Grumpy Cat, originally named Tardar Sauce by its owner, Tabatha Bundesen, died in May 2019. She was valued at several million and during her seven years of life had made various media and film appearances, all the while racking up millions of followers on social networks.

The second one was Boo. Boo was a Pomeranian dubbed ‘the world’s cutest dog’. He was also one of the richest, valued at around 6 million because of merchandise and film appearance contracts. Sadly Boo died from heart problems and, as the owners put it, “a broken heart” when his fellow companion passed away.

But many highly valued dogs and cats are still living! Here is a list of the current (August 2019) top five richest cats and dogs.

1. Gunther IV – 400 million

Gunther IV is a German Shepherd. Gunther IV’s father was Gunther III, who was owned by German countess Karlotta Leibenstein. Countless Leibenstein reportedly had no children, so she left her dog Gunther III $110 million in a trust when she died.

Somehow this vast fortune was retained in the dog’s name and was subsequently transferred to Gunther III’s puppy, Gunther IV, when the father died. Gunther IV has many caretakers who all happen to be German financial advisers and venture capitalists. Thus, over the past 20 years that $110 million dollar fortune has grown into over 400 million.

Gunther IV’s caretakers (a.k.a. money managers) have bought houses in Germany, the Bahamas, Italy, and Miami – but here’s the catch: they make the purchases in Gunther’s name, so technically this dog owns all of these houses!

Gunther may have the privilege of being the world’s richest dog. By no means, however, is he the only outrageously wealthy animal! Read on:

2. Olivia Benson – 97 million

Olivia Benson is guess who’s cat?? She is Taylor Swift’s cat!

Pop star sensation Taylor Swift is known for her loyalty to her various cats. Olivia Benson, a Scottish Fold, is the most well-known because of her media platform and commercial appearances.

Though Olivia Benson has inherited most of that $97 million fortune from her owner, her net worth is also boosted by the plentiful number of TV commercials/ads she’s been in. Coca Cola, Pepsi, and Keds shoes are companies this cat has advertised for.

3. Luke, Layla, Sadie, Sunny, Lauren – 30 million

Luke, Layla, Sadie, Lauren, and Sunny are all dogs. They are owned by talk show host Oprah Winfrey!

Oprah Winfrey, who by the way is a billionaire, has left $30 million in a trust fund for her five dogs, all various breeds. It’s a part of her will!

Oprah also has a picture of her and her dogs as her profile picture for her social media platforms.

4. Tommaso – 13 million

Tommaso is a 12-year-old cat who is in Italy. When he was four-years-old, he inherited $13,000,000 from his wealthy owner, 94-year-old widow Maria Assunta, who was childless.

Tommaso could not directly inherit the $13 million from his owner because, under Italian law, animals cannot be direct beneficiaries of wills. But somehow Maria Assunta and her lawyers got around that, and he was left that amount directly.

Tommaso once roamed the streets of Rome, Italy, as a stray black cat. Now, he not only is worth $13 million but also owns various houses and villas throughout Italy, all left in his name by his late owner!

 5. Doug the Pug – 1 million

The last one on our list is a self-made pup. If you’re on Instagram you’ve probably heard of him. It’s Doug the Pug!

Doug the Pug lives in Nashville, Tennessee, with his owner, Leslie Mosier, a graphic designer and photographer.

Doug the Pug has an annual rake-up in the high six figures due to extensive merchandise, promos with famous singers/actresses (Shakira, Ed Sheeran, Justin Bieber, John Legend, Cole Sprouse, Brendon Urie, Stranger Things cast, etc.), music videos, commercials (Febreeze, Home Goods, Dentastix, and Pedigree, etc.), and large social media following.

Doug the Pug has a collective social media following of over 13,000,000 people. The mayor of Nashville proclaimed May 20th as “Doug the Pug day!”. A book by Doug the Pug and his owner topped the New York Times bestsellers list. He has been featured in magazines such as Mashable, Cosmopolitan, BuzzFeed, TIME and Huffington Post.
